Dear brothers and sisters,
Bishop Kevin Vann has officially granted a plenary indulgence to those attending the celebration of the 20thYear Anniversary of Our Lady of La Vang Parish on Saturday, August 15, 2026. In light of this important news, let us take a moment to explore the meaning and significance of a plenary indulgence in our Catholic faith.
After receiving forgiveness through the Sacrament of Confession, we still need to purify the residual effects and consequences of our sins.This purification can be achieved through various means, such as performing acts of charity, participating in sacramental life, or obtaining a plenary indulgence.
A plenary indulgence is a grace bestowed by the Church from the redemptive treasure of Jesus Christ, aimed at removing all temporal punishments due for sins. This grace can be applied to oneself or to deceased loved ones, but not to those still living. There are two types of indulgences: plenary and partial. A plenary indulgence completely removes the temporal punishment for sins, while a partial indulgence only reduces it in certain aspects.
My brothers and sisters in Christ,
To receive this plenary indulgence on the 20thYear Anniversary of Our Lady of La Vang Parish, we must fulfill the following conditions:
1. Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation: Confess your sins within 20 days before the Dedication Ceremony.
2. Participate the Eucharistic Celebration: Presided by Bishop Kevin Vann.
3. Receive the Holy Communion: Prepare for and receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist during the Mass.
4. Pray for the Pope’s Intentions: Offer prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions. This can be done by saying, "According to the intentions of the Holy Father," followed by one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be. Conclude with the sign of the cross: "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."
We hope many of you will join us for this significant event and take advantage of this opportunity to receive the full grace of a plenary indulgence.
