Prayers and Assistance for L.A. Fire Victims

Dear Reverend Fathers,

As the fires in Los Angeles County continue to bring devastation, tragedy, and loss to our families, friends, and neighbors, we in the Diocese of Orange stand united in prayer for all those affected.

We pray for the repose of the souls who have tragically lost their lives, for the healing of the injured, and for the comfort of the displaced. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the brave first responders, keeping them in our prayers for their safety as they continue their courageous efforts.

The bishops have been deeply moved by the number of priests and faithful who have expressed a heartfelt desire to help. In response, I am pleased to share an additional opportunity to assist, alongside the special collection that will be sent to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in support of our brothers and sisters in need.

At the request of Bishop Vann, the Orange Catholic Foundation has established a special fund to aid parishes and other reputable ministries in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as they support those affected by the wildfires. This initiative includes close collaboration with Los Angeles parishes and the Knights of Columbus to identify and address the needs of those most impacted. In times like these, when information can often be overwhelming or unreliable, this trusted, faith-filled partnership ensures your generosity will have a meaningful and direct impact.

To help share this giving opportunity, a dedicated website will launch later this week, offering detailed information and a convenient platform for contributions. Recognizing the immense power of prayer, the website will also include a feature allowing individuals to pledge spiritual offerings, such as rosaries, holy hours and other devotions for those affected by the fires. Additionally, we are preparing a video message to inspire and guide our faithful in this vital effort. We encourage you to share these resources widely with your parishioners — during Mass, in bulletins, on your parish website and through social media channels.

As a sign of solidarity and commitment, Bishop Vann and the Diocese of Orange are joining this recovery effort with a $1-million donation. The prayers, love and support of our community will play an essential role in rebuilding lives and restoring hope in the wake of this tragedy.

Thank you for your leadership, your prayers and your unwavering commitment to serving others in Christ’s name. May God’s grace and mercy bring peace and restoration to all affected by this disaster.

In Christ,

— Bishop Freyer
